Chamber Music NZ: Piers Lane and the Doric String Quartet
07 Sep 2010
In their twelve years together, the prize-winning UK-based Doric String Quartet have successfully forged a career path that places them in highly acclaimed chamber music events and series around the world, and working in collaboration with world-class artists. This tour to New Zealand, in partnership with the Royal Overseas League, sees them team up with one of our favourite international touring pianists, Piers Lane.
London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane has a flourishing international career which has taken him to more than forty countries. He is in great demand as a chamber music collaborator, and in 2007 was appointed Artistic Director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, held annually in Townsville.

2007 Tarras Vineyards “The Steppes Vineyard” Pinot Noir Central
According to Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “Moderate complexity on the nose: soft and plumy on the palate … very smooth on the finish. Slips down the throat easily. Drink now-2013.” (09/09) “Winemaker Carol Bunn, who spent time working at Dry River and Martinborough Vineyards on the north island as well as a stint at Amity Vineyard in Oregon, is responsible for making this and many wines coming out of Central Otago these days and had the two Pinots she made in 2002 at Akarua rank #1 and #2 by Cuisine magazine. The 2007 Estate has a bouquet that is bright and lifted with notes of plum, strawberry and cherry along with hints of earth and minerals. On the palate, the wine is elegant with excellent balance, smooth silky tannins and a long persistent finish. Enjoy this lovely wine with salmon, roast chicken or some grilled lamb chops.
